Information Systems Adoption and Business
Productivity
Applications of information systems in the
past twenty years have significantly changed the internal operations and
strategic competition in business. This is true not only for the
developed countries but also for the developing countries in the Asia
Pacific Area. Therefore, it is important for the information systems
community to examine how the adoption of information systems enhances
business performance. This is particular useful when we see a second
wave of e-business movement, in which more and more companies that have
survived the dotcom bubble are making profit. For example, the stock
price of Yahoo.com is higher than $100 and the stock price of Sohu.com
have risen from 60 cents to higher than $30 in Nasdaq. It would be
interesting to examine whether this reflects a second opportunity for
information systems community and what are the contributions of
information technology toward productivity in the fastest growing city
in China and the pearl of the East -- Shanghai.
